• Erpingham Leisure Hub

Erpingham Leisure Hub has recently been formed to promote, encourage and support engagement in sporting and physical activities by all members of the community.

The project has so far seen the introduction of successful Pilates and Walking Football classes, but is keen to start new activities for all age groups depending on demand from those living in Erpingham and surrounding villages.

    Floodlit Walking Football
Takes place at the Erpingham Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm.

Walking Football was initially designed to help get the over 50s back into football and exercise. However, we welcome men and women of all ages and abilities to our sessions, where the slower pace means less risk of injury than in conventional soccer.

    New Age Kurling

The Hub has everything necessary to play the ‘non-ice’ version of the popular sport. In addition to organising sessions throughout the year, the Hub also loans the equipment to individuals, clubs and groups. It is an ideal activity for social events or fund raising.

The MUGA is a community asset which is freely available for anyone wishing to participate in sporting activities for recreational purposes, whether individually or as part of a team.

It comprises an all-weather surface with floodlighting, recess goals, rebound fencing, basketball hoops, fence-located wickets and mobile tennis nets.

The floodlights work by using tokens, which can be purchased from the Erpingham Arms or from Martin Service Station on the A140 at Alby.

    The MUGA opening times are:

    • Weekdays: 08.00 – 21.00
    • Weekends: 09.00 – 20.00

MUGA Risk Assessment – An exemplar that users such as school groups, etc. may want, to assist with their paperwork.

  • Recycling and Waste

The wheelie bins are collected weekly on Thursdays – green bin one week, grey bin the next. The green bin is for recyclable waste and there is a strict list of allowable material. The grey bin is for non-recyclable waste, which goes to landfill.

There is also a garden waste collection service (brown bin) which is collected on the same Thursday as the green bin. This currently costs approx. £40 per year.

More information on collection dates and what can and can’t be recycled is available on the District Council’s Waste & Recycling pages.

Please put glass in the bottle banks outside the Village Hall. The village hall gets an income from these. There is a further glass re-cycling facility at The Erpingham Arms, which also supports the Village Hall.

The nearest household waste disposal sites are at Hilltop on the A148 near Sheringham and at Meeting Hill near North Walsham. These are operated by Norfolk County Council.

Ofsted inspectors visited Erpingham School on 27th and 28th February 2014 and liked what they saw. Head teacher Simon East says ‘We were very pleased that the inspection recognised many of our unique qualities and strengths. We are delighted that good progress towards our eventual aims is highlighted in the report as we move towards being an outstanding school’.

Ofsted February 2014. This is a good school.

    • The headteacher has developed a strong, committed and effective team of staff and governors. Frequent checks on teaching and good training opportunities are used effectively to improve the quality of teaching and achievement.
    • Pupils make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics. The ‘flexi-school’ timetable, used to allow individual pupils to be partly home educated, works very well.
    • Teaching is good and sometimes outstanding. Activities are interesting and carefully planned to help each pupil build on their learning and progress well.
    • Pupils behave well and feel safe in class and around the school.
    • The development of a successful ‘leadership partnership’ with two other local schools has enabled the headteacher to closely monitor how well the school is performing.
    • Excellent relationships exist between the school and parents. Many parents volunteer to provide pupils with wide ranging experiences in music, art and drama. This contributes to pupils’ strong spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
    • Pupils new to the school receive good support; they settle quickly and make good progress during their time in school.
