Thwaite Common Toad Patrol

This year migration started early on 19th February, six days before the rota was due to begin!  Yet again we had a dry five weeks – it was mainly mild and only rained once, on 20th March.

After a slow start numbers increased from 6th March 6 with 388 toads moved off the road to the maximum in one night on 8th March 9 when 478 were saved!  The total number of toads saved for the period patrolled was 2,272 – just 22 less than our best year in 2010.

Twenty people took part – two were new to it and enjoyed themselves!  Statistics will be sent off to Froglife and toadwatch.org

SO – many thanks to everyone who helped our local wildlife.

Stephen Burrell.
